Wellness at Amara is a way of developing a lifestyle that pays homage to the body and mind. Located in the idyllic hills of Kovalam, with the stunning views of the Western Ghats and the natural beauty of Kerala, our retreat has dedicated itself to practicing the ancient wisdom of Ayurveda for an eternity. As a prominent Ayurveda healing center in Kerala, we believe in holistic living practices, including evidence-based treatments, conscious or mindful living routines, and sustainable decisions that help empower our guests to reclaim their wellness and balance in their lives.
In holistic living, the first thing you need to do is get balanced and then work towards the rhythm of your body and the rhythm of the ecosystem you are in. At Amara, we do this intentionally in everything from the green earth and clay-based materials we use to build our eco-friendly rooms to our diet of naturally grown foods. The natural materials like red earth and clay used to build our rooms minimize our carbon footprint, but also create a calming energy beneficial for healing. We offer Ayurvedic treatment packages in Kerala to a diverse clientele with personalized treatments, diets, and yoga and meditation experiences so that the body can cleanse itself from inside, build immunity, and sustain well-being beyond the retreat.
Ayurveda works best when practiced authentically. We are committed to upholding the authentic nature of Ayurveda. All therapies are being imparted by experienced Ayurvedic practitioners in the setting of freshly made herbal oils and medicines from nature. The treatments are Abhyanga oil massage, Shirodhara (pouring oil in an even stream over the forehead), herbal steam bath, and mud treatments as per authentic Ayurvedic procedures. The procedures and medicines are made according to the dosha constitution of the person, making the treatment process a totally different healing experience for the individual. It is this faith, the existence of pure Ayurveda, that makes us an abode for authentic Ayurveda treatment in Kerala, instilling in our guests a sense of care from tradition and lightened by the ingenuity of nature.
One of the keystones of Ayurveda is Panchakarma treatment. This unique five-step method works, in a way, to rid the body of toxins and bring balance to the person. We consider Panchakarma not as a treatment but as a lifestyle. Guests go through detox programs like Virechana (purgation), Vasti (medicated enemas), and Nasyam (nasal treatments), yoga classes, an intuitive diet, and relaxation treatments. The results were effects on the physical and emotional bodies, as well as the mind. Panchakarma is a reboot for the body, so when you return home, you have the practices of a holistic lifestyle.
Our vision goes well beyond short-term healing. We want guests to take the principles of Ayurveda with them into their everyday lives, eating food based on the season, incorporating yoga and pranayama into their daily lives, and following their natural rhythms to live in harmony with nature. Sustainability is key, and we demonstrate how to make conscious choices regarding mindful resource use, eco-friendly actions, and practices that benefit you personally and the environment. Living a holistic lifestyle takes consistency, and at Amara, we want to provide you with the experiences, information, and resources to continue your chosen path when you move on from the retreat. We guide you towards, and through, an ongoing life-changing journey of wellbeing through conscious lifestyle practices, traditional Ayurvedic treatments, supportive living environments, yoga, and Panchakarma treatment in Kerala.
